One of my favorite parts of giving a gift is after the recipient opens it. I wait a beat and, whenever possible, offer up whatever little extra thought is behind it. “This is from the perfumer to the Queen!” or “Kate loves this lipstick!” or “Remember when Meghan wore these flats on her pre-royal Instagram days?” It feels like an inside secret and makes the gift feel so special.
I’ve done my best to bring that same energy to the 2021 SMT Gift Guide. Thank you to everyone who sent in suggestions. So many fun gifts here! There links to the exact products Meghan and Kate love, plus royal-inspired souvenirs and reads. Scroll down for a small business shoutout, a roundup of my personal faves, and a look at what I have on my own wish list. I hope you enjoy perusing this guide as as much as I enjoyed putting it together.
But mostly: Shop locally whenever you can! And think outside the box. An email from Kelly, the owner of a yoga studio, gave me a lot to think about. “I know the supply chain conversation is a big one with broad implications, but the focus on the holiday disruption makes me craaaaaazy. You know what’s not stuck in a cargo trailer? Yoga instructors, restaurant owners, acupuncturists, massage therapists or local boutiques,” she wrote. “After the last two years, I think the greatest gift we can give anyone is an experience — out of the house, bonus if it’s focused on self-care and/or community.” Pssst: Kelly's on-demand video classes would make a great gift.
Happy holidays, friends!
